10 Minutes with Johan Somers
Today Improv

OH MY GOD IT’S NOT A MIRAGE IT’S AN AMAZING “10 minutes with Johan Somers!!!” Thanks to Mark Turpin for the suggestion “Sabotage: The Musical!” Stick around after as we talk about how Johan got into improv, the importance of playing with boundaries, doing Zoomprov, Stacey Smith, doing online shows with The Sudden Knot, jumping right in with musical improv and more. Johan is such a great person to play with. Our suggestion sparked inspiration in me about the Beastie Boys song, “Sabotage.” (Sidenote, their video is one of the best ever and it would actually make a great Braodway musical.) I was throwing Beastie Boys lyrics into the scene and Johan was great at accepting and going with it. It’s a wondeful example of what to do when you don’t know someone else’s rerefence. It’s not his responsibility to know my references that he doesn’t know. It’s up to me to make it so he can still play in the scene, which he did. Because he’s amazing at improv and he can handle whatever is thrown his way. Just brilliant. Follow Johan on Facebook and like and follow his group The Sudden Knot.
