10 Minutes with Rutika Yeolekar Today Improv
WHAT AN AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL SCENE! I really LOVED improvising “10 Minutes with Rutika Yeolekar.” Thanks to Laxmi Priya for her suggestion of “Precise.” Stick around after the scene as we talk about how Rutika got into improv (the same as me!), playing vulnerable in scenes, really buying into what’s happening, why I think anger is unnecessary in improv and more. This was one of the more real, beautiful and emotional scenes I’ve ever done. We were both actually crying at one point. It was so powerful. Rutika used the suggestion so wonderfully too. Although she took her first class just last year, Rutika has been improvising her whoe life. She just didn’t know it was called improv. She made such a strong choice right at the top of the scene, without a word being said, and it gave me SO MUCH to work with. She was handing me gifts all scene like she was Santa Claus. Although we played very slow and patiently, this scene was very fast to me — meaning, it was like a sled going down a hill and you had to be on from the start or else you’d never catch up. I will remember this scene vividly, line by line, for the rest of my life.
